Rajaji Memorial - Thorapalli Rajaji Memorial

A leader gifted with amazing intellectual brilliance, a multifaceted personality, popularly known as 'Rajaji' was born in Thorapalli, an interior village near Hosur in Krishnagiri district. He held the position of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during the pre and post Independent periods.

He had the distinction of being the first Indian to occupy the position of Viceroy and he was also the last Governor General of India. An eloquent speaker and a great writer his works are cherished even today. From the presidentship of Salem town municipality to the Governor General of India, he bestowed luster on the positions he held.

Rajaji Memorial -Thorapalli
In memory of the great leader Rajaji, the Tamil Nadu Government has converted the house in Thorapalli where Rajaji was born, as a memorial. It is located 10 Km from Hosur near Onnalvadi. Some of his belongings and a photo gallery depicting his various walks of life are displayed here.

Government Museum Government Museum

The Government Museum at Krishnagiri in the state of Tamil Nadu is a multipurpose museum founded in the year 1993. It is exactly located in the Gandhi Road.

This multipurpose museum has in its core the objects of art, archaeology, anthropology, numismatics, philately, botany, zoology and geology.

Interested people may visit the museum between 9:30am to 5pm. The museum remains closed on Fridays, second Saturdays and on National Holidays.

Mallachandram Mallachandram

It is located 19 km from krishnagiri and 4 km from samalpallam. Samalpallam lies on the krishnagiri-Bangalore Road N.H 7. The Ancestors cult was worshiped by the Megalithic people in the ancient period. In krishnagiri District three kinds of memorials are observed and they were named a Cairn circle, Dolmen and Urnburials.

In Mallachandram more than 100 Dolmens are identified in the Moral Pari. Four types of dolmens in this single place.

Dolmen built of four vertical orthostats with a huge round cap stone is covered by the top. In the second type there are double circles made of vertical slabs and the fort hole is found in the eastern side of the dolmen. The tall vertical slab is in semi-circular top. This is one of the important dolmen found in Tamil nadu.

Third one is having the similar architectural form of the second type of dolmen. But the port hole and passage are raised up to the port hole level. Smaller dolmens are rercted around the big dolmen. In other words a big dolmen was surrounded by the small dolmens. It looks like a group of people found around the head man.

Few dolmens are having white colour painting in the western orthostat and it is facing in the eastern side. These painting are painted in the megalithic period.

Hanumanthathirtham Hanumanthathirtham

Hanumanthathirtham is one of the religious attractions at Krishnagiri. Hanumanthathirtham is situated at a distance of 10 km from Uthangarai on the banks of River Ponnaiyar.

According to legends, the origin of Hanumanthathirtham is associated with Tirtamalai. Lord Hanuman was instructed by Lord Rama to bring holy water from the Ganges to fulfil his penance. Since Hanuman did not arrive in time, Lord Rama did Asthraprayoga and procured water. Hanuman when came to know about this threw the water away and it became Hanumanthathirtham.

The most auspicious time to visit Hanumanthathirtham is during the Tamil month of Aadi which is during July - August.
